Opening paragraph(s)
A seaside fair was left devastated yesterday evening after a 3 year old boy fell to his death from a family ride. Joshua Tinsdale, was enjoying a weekend visit to the popular Southsea Fair with his family when the tragic events unfolded later that day.
It is believed Joshua joined by his two siblings took a ride on the fair's ferris wheel. It is then understood that Joshua not following the guidelines stood up in one of the carriages. Eyewitnesses say this is the moment Joshua lost balance and fell 60 foot to the ground below. A medical team responded to Joshua immediately but he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Tasks to do by Monday 18th 2010
By Monday I needed to of completed the following:
- Write the headline story and title
- Produced some graphic work for the front cover ( Advertisement)
Monday, 11 October 2010
Advertisement for newspaper.
As Tabloids tend to have quite a few advertisements on the front page, I have produced several designs of adverts which I may include in my newspaper.
Newspaper layout examples
As I have chosen to produce a tabloid newspaper I have been looking at examples of tabloid newspaper front covers to see how they are generally laid out and what sort of content is included eg; images, advertisement, layout..
In addition I have also been looking at the headline titles and how they are written along with the small opening paragraph. By doing this it will help me out when I come to producing the front cover of 'The Voice'
Headline (main story)
Over the past week I have had to think about what the headline story of my newspaper will be. I have come up with the following suggestions:
- Euro millions lottery ticket winner
- Freak accident at Fair as young boy is killed on ride
- Mother murders her teenage son
- Teenage boy recuces father from sinking boat

The guardian is an example of a broadsheet newspaper unlike tabloid papers they contain formal and informative stories. In addition, broadsheet newspapers tend to be physically larger in size.
The Sun however is an example of a tabloid newspaper. A tabloid newspaper is generally physically smaller in size compared with a broadsheet and tends to focus on entertainment and generally less formal . Tabloids tend to emphasize or exaggerate sensational crime stories, gossip columns repeating scandalous and innuendos about the deeply personal lives of celebrities and sports stars.
4/10/10 summary
Up to this point I have researched into how certain newspapers design their front covers and what sort of content is included. In addition, I have found some examples of such newspaper covers and looked at these in more detail. Secondly I have thought up the name i would like to call my paper 'Voice.' and along with that I have chosen the font type (logo).
By next week I plan to experiment with photography in regards to what stories I will cover in my paper. With that I also intend come up with ideas about what the headline and stories will be.
